Irv the Octopus Review #1 - Crazy Cake

Introducing Irv the Octopus, our newest Blog Manager!

Originally introduced to our team by his cousin Sean (the model for our Octopus card), Irv was originally contracted to appear in our Kickstarter promo video.  However, during his final stunt (being dropped by our female baker), he suffered an injury which led to the loss of his front two legs, and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Real Life Aquatic Medical Center in Octopus Garden, Pacific Ocean.

Dr. Flounder, his primary physician, has assured us that he is well on the way to recovery, and will, eventually, regrow his lost tentacles.

Meanwhile, Be Game Social has been in negotiations with Irv, and, rather than pursuing legal action, has agreed to a new position as reviewer/content creator for our blog.  His goal, he communicated to us, is to promote the recognition of quality tabletop games, and the benefits thereof for every girl and boy, man and woman, sea creature and otherwise.

Of course, his first entry will be our original game, Crazy Cake!

One of the first, important benefits, he described, was the effort to afford octopedal representation, and to spread the important message that octopus is not an appropriate ingredient for confectionary.  “Octopi are fellows, not flavors,” he said.

He was also impressed with range of playability for all ages and player levels, from children to adults, and novice players to experts.

“One of my greatest issues with bringing my friends into the exciting world of tabletop gaming is finding that sweet spot between being easy and staying engaging.  Large, complex games can scare off or confuse players, while easy games can get old quickly.  Well, that and the limited waterproof options, but, regardless…I think Crazy Cake fits that gateway game role perfectly!”

In his opinion, the most important feature of Crazy Cake IS the strategy.

“You have to keep track of both your points and your opponent’s at all times.  Being an ambush predator myself, I learned very early about the virtues of patience and weighing opportunities.  For example, I once willingly traded a tier with a 7-point ‘Hot Fudge’ for an opponents’ tier that had the White Rice card…”

Incidentally, his favorite combination is the White Rice/Sashimi/Seaweed Combo, both in game and real life.

That’s not the point!  Ahem!  I made the trade because that match netted me 11 points on its own and finished the game, putting me ahead by 2 points!  After all, it doesn’t matter whether you win by a herring or a whale, so don’t get too attached to your favorite cards.”

The next game I took his Sashimi card for a combo and he has given me the stink-eye ever since.

“The POINT is…check out Crazy Cake by Be Game Social, already a beloved addition to many families’ tables across the country!  Also, look out for the special “Waterproof Edition” available soon to our aquatic fans!”

(NOTE: Be Game Social is NOT working on a waterproof edition for Crazy Cake at this time!)

Thank you very much and stay tuned for more reviews from Irv the Octopus, only at Be Game Social!
